Amanda Knox
Markets are closed for the week-end, therefore I am taking a good breath in this sunny day in the Island of Tortuga. Temperatures dropped down all in a sudden, and this sparkling air invites me to go around, by the docks, looking for friends. Trees and plants are sleeping, saving their warmth for smoother times, and the seagulls are screaming above me, whilst they play with the gentle breeze from the open sea. After a while, I notice some shouting from the entrance of the Sighing Crab. So I head for the pub, entering the lively place, full of drinking and noisy people…
This post is in english for the sake of my english speaking readers.
“Hello Peter, nice to see you again! Did you jump out of your trading den for some fresh air this morning?”
I smile with a grin..
“Eh eh eh, how did you know I was trading these days?”
Oliver, takes two beer mugs…
“Man, I’ve read your recent posts and quite frankly I did not understand a single word! What is this graphs, bars and fibon-something all about? I don’t give a damn about us dollar or euro, or other weird stuff like this….weren’t you the one who dreams about a different world, who dreams about a different life?”
I take my sit on my favorite table, waiting for him to take me some beer…
“It’s not like this, you see Oliver….I am the same man who dreams about a different life, that’s for sure. But being against insane consumerism does not prevent me from trying to grab some money from the system itself! It’s like knowing your enemy: if you know your enemy, you can take advantages from him. Trading is not a consumeristic exercise, you see? On the contrary, is about risk, money management, psychological understanding of the markets…..that’s all…”
Oliver brings me the beer, and sits in front of me…
“Well, Peter, what can I say….I understood damn all about this trading shit, and I think you should be very careful with such an activity.”
“You are perfectly right, man. I am careful, don’t worry….for sure, I play only with money I can afford to lose, that’s all. No great fuss about it. By the way, what is all this fuss about here? What are these people here shouting for?”
“Aaah, everybody is getting quite touched about Amanda Knox’s trial. Some people say the Judge and the Court involved were not fair, some others are 100% sure Amanda is guilty. You know, the same old discussions that come out from a case like this…”
“Oh dear, I find people that take positions on things that they don’t know so ridiculous. I just happened to have an interesting discussion about this issue with an american guy who created a group on Facebook with the objective to BOYCOTT italian products because of the ‘unfair’ trial against Amanda…”
“Geee, is that right? What did he say?”
“Well, basically all the people committed in this group claim that the trial was unfair and Amanda is definitely innocent. Therefore, they suggest all ‘good americans’ to boycott italian products. They also put a list of goods to avoid purchasing.”
“That’s ridiculous!”
“Exactly what I said……I am not taking the parts of the Court. However, I have the humility to say that since I don’t know the papers, nor I know the evidences, I cannot take for granted that the Court was unfair, nor that Amanda is guilty for sure. What I can say is that the Court was there to judge on the case, and I assume that they did their job professionally. There is no point of boycotting Italy simply because first: Sentences are not made from common sense feelings, and second: Italy as a Country has nothing to do with the Court’s decision! I personally think that these ‘offended’ americans do not have any clue about democracy and Justice…..and talking about unfair trials, I remember the old case of Sacco and Vanzetti. They were put to DEATH whilst completely innocent. Do we have to boycott USA for this macroscopic mistake? How many other mistakes US trials made, putting to death so many other innocents ? This is no sense.”
“I agree with you, Peter. Feels like internet is becoming so wide and powerful that we are going towards a global sense self made justice….”
“You touched the right point, Oliver. Internet is a wonderful thing, but it can be very dangerous if used in a bad way, creating global panic, emotions, bad feelings which can be based upon wrong hypothesis……I feel sorry for these offended americans, because I love the States and the americans in general too. It is a Country that made evidence of great democracy, with the election of Mr Obama, and their culture is a great culture. Hope those kind of people I met in that ridiculous group does not represent the american common sense on Amanda’s matter. Cheers, mate!”
